He is considered one of the best musical art performers in Mexico and most important bass players in this country. Mr. Kalarus has a diverse musical career, as solo bassist, teacher, chamber and symphony musician.
Born in Poland, initiated his musical studies under guide of his father. His first contacts were through the learning of violin and piano. In 1960 he begins studies of contrabass in the Music School of Katowice, in his native country, with Maestro Stefan Nowak.
In 1970 he concluded his instrumental preparation in Warszawa, with the Maestro Tadeusz Pelczar. A year before, in 1969, he participated in The International Music Competition in Geneva, Switzerland, in which he obtained the second place (no first place was awarded). In the following years his numerous solo engagements kept him busy with concerto appearances with the National Philharmonic of Poland and Wroclaw Philharmonic, as well as numerous recitals.
In 1975 he arrived in Mexico, invited by the Universidad Veracruzana to the Xalapa Symphony Orchestra as Principal bass player, position that occupies until today.
Already established in Mexico, he has played as a soloist with many of the most important symphony orchestras: Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional, Orquesta Sinfénica de Xalapa, Orquesta Filarmonica de la U.N.A.M., Orquesta de Camara de Bellas Artes; interpreting many of the concerts for contrabass of the existing repertoire of all times, styles and authors: D. Dragonetti, G. Bottesini, C.D. Von Dittersdorf, S. Kousevitsky, V. Mortari, ]. Vanhal, N. Rota, among others.
He has also maintained a productive collaboration with composers: E. Sleziak, R. Saldivar, R. Siwy, T. Pawlik and E. Servellén - "Kupil Sel", who have dedicated works to him which have been first performed by him, as well as numerous transcriptions and arrangements.
