American double-bassist Nicholas Pap has attained international recognition through his association with Baroque, Classical and Romantic orchestras such as La Petite Bande under the direction of Sigiswald Kuijken, The Leonhardt Consort, La Chappelle Royale/ Orchestre des Champs-Elysées under the direction of Philippe Herreweghe and the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra under the direction of Ton Koopman. His collaboration on more than 150 recording projects provided him the opportunity to develop an "historically-rooted" sound aesthetic.
As well as offering a Master's study in "Historical Contrabass" at the Fontys Conservatorium (Tilburg, The Netherlands/www.fontys.nl) Mr. Pap currently devotes his time to a conducting carreer, and is artistic director of Ateliers Gabcn Amors.
Employing singers, dancers, actors, choreographers, directors and décor-designers in collaboration with its ensembles-comprised ot either historical or "modern" instruments, Ateliers Caben Amors proposes to give attention to music theatre forms reaching from the 17th to the 2lst centuries as well as the presentation of orchestral works. ln keeping with an equal committment to education, Nicholas Pap sees further potential to create "Ateliers- in-residence" productions, designed for institutions possessing multiple departments in the arts.
