Kazimierz Pyzik (b. 1955 in Krakow) studied double bass (R. Daun), theory of music (A. Fraczkiewicz) and composition (M. Stachowski) at the Academy of Music in Krakow and the viola da gamba at the Meistersinger Conservatory in Nurnberg (H. Groth) and the Koninklijk Conservatory in Brussels, where he recieved succesively 2 diplomas: first prize and higher diploma (with anonimus vote, W Kuijken).

He devides his concert performances into two clear groups. He plays violone and additionally, the lyra viol - appearing in solo recitals as well as with the groups: Fiori Musicali, Camerata Cracovia and Ars Cantus. He also founded his own Consort of Viols and is a member of the Viola da Gamba Society of Great Britain. On modern instruments - the cello and double bass (also cluster - contrabass as own idea) - he plays mainly 20th century music. As a composer and performer he has been closely linked to the Muzyka Centrum group from its foundation. Aside from this he colaborates with the MW2 group, the Olga Szwajgier Quartet, ad also plays solo recitals.

At the beginning of his concert career he was a member of the Capella Cracoviensis chamber orchestra (double bass) and the Krakow Oboe Quartet (cello). He has played concerts in almost every European country as well as in the United States. He has to his credit many radio, TV and vinyl recordings. ile has won composers competitions in Poland (the A. Malawski Competition and the National Composers Competition). His works have been performed at concerts organised by Muzyka Centrum, the Olga Szwajgier Quartet and at all the festivals of contemporary music in Poland as well as others in Germany, France, Danmark, Czech Republik, Jugoslavia and Canada. ln i994 and 1997 was a lecturer of 2 Internazionale Akademie fur Neue Komposition in Schwaz (Austria) and in 'N96, 1998 and 2002 a lecturer of International Workshops for New Music in Krakow. ln W. Lutosławski's Cracow Conservatory he teaches historic string instruments: viola da gamba, baroque cello, violone and Viennese double bass.
