Hans Sturm has become president of the ISB during the 2007 convention.
He has appeared as soloist, chamber, orchestra, jazz and improvisational musician throughout Europe, Asia, South America, Africa and United States.
Hans has contributed performances and compositions to more than 40 recordings for labels such as Blue Note, Centaur, A 440,Innova, Red Mark, Music and Arts, CRI and Cadence. His most recent project, the three-hour DVD Art of the Left Hand with Francois Rabbath, joins the 2005 award-winning Art of the Bow as the most comprehensive state-of-the-art investigation of a major artist to feature selectable video angles, live performances, interviews, and biomechanic animations. He has judged the ASTA Auday-Giormenti Double Bass Competition, the solo division of the ISB Double Bass Competition, and the ISB/David Walter Composition Competition.
For six years Hans served as the editor and primary reviewer for The Latest Score new music reviews for Bass World. He is currently professor of double bass and chair of the string department at Ball State University and lives in Indiana with his wife, Blue Note recording artist Jackie Allen, and their son, Wolfgang.
