Gudrun Raschen, a native of Hamburg, Germany, relocated with her family to South Africa in 1986. She completed a Bachelor's degree in Orchestral Studies and a Masters in Chamber Music at the University of Cape Town where she graduated with distinction in performance. She won the concerto competition twice, performing with the University of Cape Town Symphony.
Gudrun moved to the United States to continue her studies at the University of North Texas and is currently in the final stage of her Doctorate in Double Bass Performance with the renowned teacher and performer Jeff Bradetich. She has extensive orchestral and chamber music experience, performing with orchestras including: South African National Youth Orchestra, Cape Town Philharmonic, Natal Philharmonic and in the United States with the Fort Worth
Symphony, Dallas and Texas Chamber Orchestras, Richardson Symphony, East Texas Symphony and The Orchestra of New Spain.
ln 2005, Gudrun was invited to perform atthe International Chamber Music Festival in South Africa, and for the last three years at the Mittenwald International Masterclasses in Germany. She recently performed and taught at the Pan American Music Festival and will tour Finland with her chamber music group in summer 2008. She has performed in solo and chamber music recitals on Cello and Double Bass as well as in Early Music concerts on violone
and baroque cello, including performances at the Boston Early Music Festival. Currently teaching at the University of North Texas as a teaching assistant and at Texas Women's University as adjunct faculty, she also has a private studio and teaches masterclasses and clinics throughout the Dallas, Texas area.
